Afia Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS had big dreams of making a mark at this year’s edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz, but the ladies from the Ashanti Region based institution had their hopes dashed in their first contest involving St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS and Salaga SHS at the Preliminary stage.
The supporters could not hold back their tears after the final scores were declared by the Quiz Mistress, Dr. Thelma Ohene Agyei.
St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS scored 33 points to eliminate Afia Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS from the competition, who scored 20 points, as well as Salaga SHS, with 17 points.
The scores of the two losing schools are not enough to push them through to the one-eighth stage as one of the 18 highest scoring schools.
It may be recalled that Afia Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS got kicked out of last year’s National Championships when they were cut to size by Sunyani SHS at the same stage. They would have to fight their way back to the Nationals through the Regional Qualifiers in 2020.
The National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service with support from Goil, GCB Bank, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Vimto, Adansi Travels, Kenya Airways, Entervasity, Accra College of Medicine, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Academic City College, Medifem Multi-specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre, Adesua.store, GTP, Pink Pearl, Hawtie Makeup and Chicas beads.
