Eight schools have received a total of GHS16,800 as cash prize for winning the NSMQ Star at the 2019 National Science & Maths Quiz.
Five schools, St. Augustine’s College, Boa-Amponsem SHS, Awudome SHS, Assin State College and Labone SHS as well as Presby SHS, Bechem received GHS2,000.00 each for scoring a perfect score at the Preliminary stage of the competition.
St. Ignatius of Loyola and Opoku Ware School were also awarded GHS2,400.00 each for getting an NSMQ star at the One-Eighth Stage.
Head of Marketing and Communications at Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Frances Baaba Ofori made the formal cheque presentation to the winning schools available at the University of Ghana.
To make the Round Three also known as the ‘Problem of the Day’ more exciting, Primetime Limited introduced the NSMQ Star where contestants earn a star each time they get a perfect score of 10 in solving the question in the round.
The value of the star increases as the competition progresses through its various stages.
The objective of the initiative is to reward the teams who, although do well, specifically in the third round, leave the competition by virtue of losing their contests at the early stages where there is no real recompense, compared to the quarter final stages and beyond.
The following is the layout of the NSMQ star:
Prelims: A star is worth GHS500.00
One-Eighth Stage: A star is worth GHS600.00
Quarter finals: A star is worth GHS700.00
Semi finals: A star is worth GHS850.00
Grand finale: A star is worth GHS1000.00
