FOUR FORMER CHAMPS TO BEGIN REDEMPTION CAMPAIGN FROM PRELIMS

The battle lines have been drawn and the stage is set for the search of the winner of the 2019 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz.

A total of 108 Regional Qualifiers were on, Saturday, June 15, 2019, pitched in threes, in 36 separate contests for the Preliminary Stage of the Competition.

Four former champions, G.S.T.S, Achimota School, Pope John SHS and St. Augustine’s College will begin their campaign from the Prelims, in their quest to redeem their image, after failing to qualify for NSMQ2018, and for others, not getting seeded.

St. Augustine’s College will on, Tuesday June 18, take on Bolgatanga SHS and Walewale SHS in the second contest of the day, for a place in the One-eighth Stage at the New ‘N’ Block. The 2007 winners returned to the National Championships after suffering a painful defeat to Swedru SHS in the 2018 Central Regional Qualifiers.

2001 winners, Pope John SHS, would also be looking forward to make a comeback in this year’s edition, when they come up against Adventist Girls’ SHS, Ntonso and Sonrise SHS on Wednesday, June 19, in a contest that promises to be nerve wracking.

Pope John SHS was thwarted in a keenly contested One-eighth contest by their city rivals Koforidua SHTS in 2018, but they hope for redemption this year.

Western Region based G.S.TS will anxiously look forward to ending the six-year trophy drought at NSMQ2019, when they clash with Volta Region based Zion College and Aduman SHS on Thursday June 20, 2019.

Two-time champion, Achimota School, after a painful loss in 2018, are looking to make a bold statement when they face Dzodze-Penyi SHS and Konongo-Odumase SHS on the last day of the Preliminary Stage contests.

The preliminary contests will come off from June 17 -22, 2019 at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium and the New ‘N’ Block, all at the University of Ghana.
