NSMQ Contingents visit CSIR-Water Research Institute, Ghana Planetarium

The National Science & Maths Quiz and the Science Festival  (NSMQ) organised by Primetime Limited, has over the years, organised educational tours to various places of interest for students, particularly to centres of scientific activity, to enable them see Science as applied in Business, Research and Industry.

Some participants of the 2019 edition of the NSMQ visited the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research-Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI), Accra. The visit was aimed at providing students with practical knowledge.

According to Mr Patrick Amankwah Manu, a rep from the Ground Water Division of the WRI, it is part of the division’s mandate to provide capacity building and transfer knowledge to others. He went on to advise the students not to neglect the Sciences, but to apply them in solving issues of the Country. Again, he encouraged them to explore careers in Geophysics.

The students had the opportunity to tour the some departments and some projects of the Water Research Institute.

In another visit, the team went to the Ghana Planetarium, where they were introduced to Space Science and Astronomy.  They also had the opportunity to watch videos of Astronomy and Planets.

Other places of interest that have been lined up for the students to visit are the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Ghana Standards Authority and the Blue Skies Factory at Nsawam.
