NSMQ participants urged to explore careers in Engineering

Academic City College hosted some contingents of the 2019 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) in an Open Day Ceremony, to provide the students with adequate knowledge in career selection. Hosting the students was part of the school’s sponsorship of the NSMQ.

Academic City College is a tertiary institution with activity-based experiential learning and premium teaching talent, which is complemented by a new state-of-the-art campus. The aim of the visit was to give students useful knowledge in terms of career selection in the future.

In a panel session organised, Dr Fred Mcbagonluri, a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, and President of the school, encouraged prospects to be organisational savvy, which meant having a skill set, team spirit and being self-aware of the environment they live in.

According to him, Academic City College is dedicated to solving problems in Africa, actualising the processes and combining students from different departments, to work on one project. Furthermore, he urged students offering Science not to limit their career options to Medicine, but to explore the areas of Engineering.

On the lighter side, the students had the opportunity to tour Mechanical Work Stations, a Thermal Engineering Lab and other facilities of the institution, after which they engaged in fun activities such as musical chairs and spin-the-wheel.
