For the first time this year, the National Science & Maths Quiz has recorded three competing schools in a single contest scoring a perfect score of 10 in the third round also known as the Problem of the Day.
The schools, Awudome SHS, Assin State College and Presby SHS, Bechem had no problem with the ‘Problem of the Day.’ The complex question was drawn from Mathematics.
The three schools earned their first NSMQ Star worth GHS500 each; going to the three contestants as well as the coach or team leader.
This initiative is sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana. Primetime Limited introduced the NSMQ Star to make the Round Three exciting. Contestants earn a star each time they get a perfect score of ten (10) in solving the Problem of the Day.
The value of the star increases as the competition progresses through its various stages. The objective of this initiative is to reward the teams who, although do well, specifically in the third round, leave the competition by virtue of losing their contests at the early stages.
In the end, it was the Volta Region based Awudome SHS that won the contest with 36 points, followed by Assin State College with 32 points, and Presby SHS, Bechem with 30 points.
Despite they losing the contest, Assin State College qualified to the next stage of the competition as part of the 18 highest scoring losing schools.
The National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service with support from Goil, GCB Bank, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Vimto, Adansi Travels, Kenya Airways, Entervasity, Accra College of Medicine, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Academic City College, Medifem Multi-specialist Hospital and Fertility Centre, Adesua.store, GTP, Pink Pearl, Hawtie Makeup and Chicas beads.
