Blue Skies hosted some participants of the 2019 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz at the factory located at Doboro-Nsawam in the Eastern Region on June 29, 2019.
Blue Skies is a fruit processing company, which was founded in 1997 and is seen as a model for development in Africa. Having grown to an employer of six thousand workers in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil and United Kingdom, the company does not only process fruits into juices, but also supplies freshly cut fruits to consumers.
The team met with Mr Alistair Djimatey, the Public Relations Officer of the Foundation Division of Blue Skies, who mentioned in a brief session that at the core of the business, fruits, are delivered the fresh from harvest, and believe in value addition at the source of its supply.
Mr Djimatey stated that, the company ethically sources its fruits and puts in innovative efforts into making new products such as ice-creams. He added that Blue Skies ensures environmental sustainability such that waste from the company produce are recycled back into manure for fruit cultivation.
He stated that as part of the company’s social responsibility, Blue Skies’ Foundation Division extends aid to farmers, and have organised School Farms of the Year competitions, completed sixty seven (67) projects in schools, clinics and water systems for communities.
The session ended with an encouragement from Mr Djimatey to the students to see opportunities from challenges.
Mr Alistair Djimatey accompanied the team to tour the factory, the factory Clinic, the quality and control unit as well as the juice processing and packaging units of the factory.
