Bright Asiedu, a member of St. Thomas Aquinas SHS’ team at the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz, has won a full scholarship to study medicine at the Accra College of Medicine.
The scholarship is part of Accra College of Medicine’s sponsorship of the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ). At the launch of the NSMQ in May 2017, Ms. Prisca Atogsiya, Ag. Director of Administration of Accra College of Medicine (ACM) announced that the College would offer a full scholarship to one of the finalists of the NSMQ who would be interested in studying medicine.
Prempeh College, three-time NSMQ champions, crushed 2012 NSMQ winners, GSTS and debutants, Aduman SHS in the fourth quarterfinal contest to qualify for the semi-final of the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz.
The 1994, 1996 and 2015 winners put up a masterful performance to end the competition with 82 points, the highest scores this year, whilst GSTS and Aduman SHS only managed to pull 39 and 31 points respectively.
Primetime, producers of the National Science & Maths Quiz, is set to launch the 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz on May 31, 2017 at the British Council Hall, Accra. This year’s competition will be the 22nd edition of the quiz which brings together 135 Senior High Schools each year to participate in the National championship.
Primetime is set to organise the maiden edition of the NSMQ Sci-Tech Fair on June 27 & 28 at the University of Ghana, Legon as part of the 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz.
The organisation, which is the brain behind the National Science & Maths Quiz, believes that this Fair will afford Senior High School students the opportunity to demonstrate that they are not only knowledgeable in answering questions on stage but can put into practice some of the concepts they study in school in solving problems.
The Ashanti Regional Competition of the National Science & Maths Quiz 2017 has ended in Kumasi after five days of competition which saw 19 schools qualify for the National competition.
The competition which was held from Monday, February 6- Friday, February 10, 2017 at Opoku Ware School saw 59 Senior High Schools from the Ashanti Region in fierce intellectual battles for 19 slots at the National level.
At the end of the five-day competition, the following schools booked their places at the National competition slated for June 2017 and received a cash prize of GHS 1,000:
Schools to compete in the 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz Regional Competitions would from next week begin balloting for their respective contests.
Of the 134 senior high schools from all regions of Ghana who for close to three weeks have been competing, 27 have made it to the quarter finals.
By virtue of having reached the quarter finals, these 27 schools would gain automatic qualification to the 2017 edition of the competition, thus skipping the Regional competitions and Preliminary stage of next year’s edition.
The 2016 National Science & Maths Quiz will enter its quarter final stage on Thursday, June 23, 2016, with contests taking place till Saturday, June 25, 2016.
The 2016 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz comes off from Monday, June 6 to Wednesday June 29, 2016 at the University of Ghana, Legon. This year’s edition would be the 21st in the history of the competition which started in 1993.
Competing this year would be 136 schools from the ten regions of Ghana. Out of these schools, 27 of them are seeded schools and would not compete at the preliminary stage, by virtue of having qualified to the quarter final stage in the 2015 edition of the competition. Therefore, 109 schools would compete at the preliminary stage.
