What started as a tough contest for Mfantsipim School in the quarter finals of the ongoing National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) ended a victory for them.
The two time-winners of the NSMQ, Mfantsipim School, were up against Prempeh College, three-time winners and reigning champions of the NSMQ and Wesley Girls’ High School.
In the first round of the contest, all three contestants had impressive scores, with Prempeh College leading with a 10-point margin leaving Mfantsipim School and Wesley Girls’ High School tied with 23 points.
Mfantsipim School, in the second round, got most of the Speed Race questions correct which saw them tagging behind Prempeh College with a one point difference. Wesley Girls’ High School came third with 26 points.

In the third round of the contest, both Prempeh College and Wesley Girls’ High School got a perfect score of 10 in the “Problem of the Day” with Mfantsipim School getting eight (8) points.
Thus, after the third round, the score margin between Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College slightly widened by three points.
At the end of the fourth round, Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College tied with 58 points each while Wesley Girls’ High School made 49 points, an equally impressive score.
The last round, Riddles, became the decider of the contest as all three schools battled to pick most of the four riddles.
Mfantsipim School picked the first riddle putting them in the lead by three points. Prempeh College also picked the second riddle for three points to again tie with Mfantsipim School.
The winning moment was when Mfantsipim School picked the third riddle and Prempeh College answered the last riddle wrongly leaving it for Wesley Girls’ High School.
At the end of the contest, Mfantsipim School won with 64 points, Prempeh College came second with 61 points and Wesley Girls’ High School emerged third with 52 points.
Mfantsipim School will meet Ghana National College and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS at the semifinals on Monday, June 27, 2016.
The quarter final contests continue on Friday June 24, 2016 and Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the University of Ghana Business School, Legon.
