Holy Child School has qualified to the next round of the National Science & Maths Quiz in a fiercely contested competition.
They were up against their colleagues from the Central region, Edinaman SHS, and Northern region-based Ghana SHS, Tamale.
Edinaman SHS took an early lead in the first round but lost it to Holy Child SHS in the second round of the competition.
The first round results saw Edinaman SHS leading with 16pts, Ghana SHS, Tamale scoring 15 points, 11pts for Holy Child School.
The tables turned in the second round when Holico added nine (9) points to take the lead. Edinaman SHS added a point to their score whilst Ghana SHS, Tamale lost a point.
The three schools maintained their respective positions in the third round (Problem of the Day) of the 11th preliminary stage contest of NSMQ2017.
The contest became keener after the end of the round involving the answering of true or false questions.
Edinaman SHS overtook Holy Child School with a margin of one whilst Ghana SHS, Tamale lagged behind with a 13-point difference from the leaders.
Going into the fifth and final round of the contest, Edinaman SHS led with 39 points followed closely by their closest contender Holy Child School with 38 points and Ghana SHS, Tamale with 26 points.
With the above results, the winner was to be decided in the final round. It was the tenacity and composure of the ladies from Holico that won the contest for them to the delight of their fans.
They were able to solve two out of the four riddles on the third clue to earn 6 points. Ghana SHS, Tamale picked the third riddle on the second clue to get 4 points whilst the final riddle went unanswered.
Holy Child School won the contest to book a place at the one-eighth stage of NSMQ2017.
Also qualifying for the next round alongside Holy Child School are Mawuli School, debutants Zion College, Oguaa SHTS and Armed Forces SHTS, Kumasi.
Also making it to the one-eighth stage is Akumuman SHS, the school with the highest score so far at the preliminary stage. They scored 60 points to beat Business SHS and Aduman SHS.
