Six more schools have secured their places at the one-eighth stage of the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz currently taking place at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The 6 qualified schools are two (2) Volta Region-based schools (Anlo SHS and Adidome SHS), two (2) Ashanti Region-based schools (Jachie Pramso SHS and St. Louis SHS) as well as one (1) each for the Greater Accra Region (Wesley Grammar School) and Upper East Region (Bolgatanga SHS).

This brings the total number of qualified schools from the preliminary stage to 30.

First to qualify was Adidome SHS in a contest that was fought tooth and nail. They were up against Some SHS and Sandema SHS. Before the fifth round, Adidome and Some SHS were at a tie with 28 points whilst Sandema SHS was a point behind. It took the deftness of the contestants from Adidome SHS to win the contest in the dying moments of the competition.

Four riddles were to be answered in the final lap. Adidome SHS answered the first which gave them a three-point lead ahead of Some SHS. Some SHS rang for the second riddle but missed it. Sandema SHS capitalized on Some SHS’ wrong response to pick the three points. The hope of Some SHS qualifying to the one-eighth stage of the NSMQ2017 was rekindled when they answered the third riddle to gain three points which again brought them at par with Adidome SHS. But it was Adidome SHS that heaved a sigh of relief when they provided the right answer to the fourth and final riddle.

At the end of the well-fought contest, Some SHS and Sandema SHS ended with 31 and 30 points respectively whilst Adidome SHS carried the day with 34 points.

Meanwhile, Jachie Pramso SHS walked over St. Mary’s Sem/SHS and T.I Amass SHS, Kumasi at the New N Block.
