All is set for the National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival, which brings together 135 Senior High Schools each year to participate in the National Championship, in Accra. This will be the 23rd edition of the Quiz.
As a prelude to the Science Festival, an official launch will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the British Council Hall at 5:00pm. According to Primetime, producers of the National Science & Maths Quiz, the purpose of the launch is to inform stakeholders in Ghana’s Educational sector and the general public about how far the Competition has come, emphasize its contribution in producing scientists for the country and unveil some of the additions being made to the Competition in this year’s edition.
Speakers at the launch of the 2018 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz would include Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Minister of Education, Ms Adelaide Asante, Director of Science, Technology and Innovation at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Mr. Victor Yanney, National President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS)
The National Science & Maths Quiz was instituted in 1993, as a means of promoting the study of Science and Mathematics at the Senior High School level. In its 25th year, it is the longest-running independent production on television and has aided a lot of contestants to further their studies in the sciences and contribute to the development of Ghana. The Quiz has been expanded into a Science Festival to include other satellite programmes: Mentorship Sessions, Sci-Tech Fair, Picnic and Tours, to encourage interactions, practical study and application of Science and Mathematics.
The Mentorship Sessions, which are sponsored by BOND Savings & Loans and RMG Ghana Ltd, would start from June 12, 2018 and continue each day of the Science Festival at 9am. The second edition of the Sci-Tech Fair, sponsored by GOIL, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and Tullow Oil, is slated for Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Athletics Oval, University of Ghana, Legon.
The National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, with support from GCB Bank, GTP, Lancaster University Ghana, Academic City College, Mediferm Multi-specialist Hospital, Accra College of Medicine, Hawtie Makeup, West African Centre for Cell Biology for Infectious Pathogens and Awake Purified Drinking water.
