Achimota School and Akwamuman SHS have started the 2018 National Science & Maths Quiz on a winning note.
They were the latest to make it to the next round of the competition after beating the contenders in a separate contest this afternoon.
Achimota School seems to be writing a new script of their own at the NSMQ, after failing to make it to the nationals in 2017.
The two-time champions garnered 44 points to beat St. Louis SHS’ 30 points and Atebubu SHS’ 9 points in the second in series of the preliminary contests.
The Eastern Region-based Akwamuman SHS had a relatively easy contest, leading their contenders, Sogakope SHS and Tamale Islamic SHS, right from start to the end.

They pulled a total of 40 points while Sogakope SHS and Tamale Islamic SHS scored 24 and 12 points respectively.
Achimota School and Akwamuman SHS join St. Peter’s SHS and Sandema SHTS at the next stage of the competition.
The losing schools would have to wait for the end of the preliminary stage to know their fate in NSMQ2018.
A total of 18 highest-scoring losing schools will progress alongside the 36 winners of the Preliminary contests of the 2018 National Science & Maths Quiz, on-going at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The last two preliminary contests for the day will feature Breman Asikuma SHS who will come up against Notre Dame SHS, Navrongo and T.I Amass, Ekumfi while Oti Boateng SHS will battle Juaso SHTS and Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS for a slot in the one-eighth stage.
