Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS and Breman Asikuma SHS have kept their hopes alive in this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz as they won their respective preliminary contests.
Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS proved too strong for Juaso SHTS and Oti Boateng SHS as they beat the two schools with 44 points. The ladies led the contest throughout all the five rounds, and eventhough Oti Boateng SHS’ had perfect score in the third round, this did not intimidate the ladies from Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS as they soldiered on to victory. At the end of the contest, Juaso SHTS and Oti Boateng garnered 16 and 15 points respectively.

In the other final preliminary contest for the day, Ekumfi T.I Amass and Notre Dame SHS, Navrongo were knocked out by Breman Asikuma SHS with 31 points to seal the qualification to the one-eighth stage of NSMQ2018.
A total of 6 schools so far have booked the tickets into the next stage of the competition.
Earlier in the day, St. Peter’s SHS and Achimota School, two-time champions won their respective contests to make it past the preliminary stage. Akwamuman SHS and Sandema SHTS also made it to the one-eighth stage of the contest.
The losing schools would have to hope their scores are high enough to guarantee them a place in the one-eighth stage, as part of the 18 highest-scoring losing schools.
The preliminary competition returns tomorrow, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, with six other contests from the New N Block and the R.S Amegashie Auditorium at the University of Ghana, Legon.
