Prempeh College, reigning champions of the National Science & Maths Quiz will on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, begin their title defense at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana.
They will be up against St. Francis Xavier Junior Sem. and Saviour SHS in the 27th in series of the one-eighth stage of the competition.
St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, 2017 first runner-up, will also be looking forward to their second trophy as they battle it out with Anglican SHS and Sekondi College on Saturday, June 23, 2018 while the Central Region-based, Adisadel College will on Thursday, June 21, 2018, begin the campaign in a fierce contest with Osei Tutu SHS and OLA SHS, Ho.
The one-eighth stage of the 2018 National Science & Maths Quiz will begin on Monday, June 18, 2018, with 81 schools competing for supremacy as champions of Science and Mathematics in Ghana.
There will be a total of 27 contests in the one-eighth stage with each contest having a seeded school from last year’s competition against two schools from the preliminaries.
The winners of the 27 contests will then progress to the quarter-finals where they gain automatic qualification to the 2019 edition of the compettion.
Prior to the balloting, many NSMQ pundits took to social media to make predictions as to which three schools they expected to be grouped at the one-eighth stage.
The National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), with support from GCB Bank, GTP, Lancaster University Ghana, Academic City College, Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital, Accra College of Medicine, Hawtie Makeup, West African Centre for Cell Biology for Infectious Pathogens and Awake Purified Drinking water. The Sci-Tech Fair is sponsored by Goil, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, and Tullow, while Bond Savings & Loans and RMG Ghana Ltd are sponsoring the Mentorship Sessions.
