KNUST SHS has picked the first slot in the quarterfinal contest in the ongoing 2018 National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival.
They were able to sail through a water-tight one-eighth contest sending their contenders, Sunyani SHS and Ada SHS packing out of the competition.
Interestingly, the Kumasi-based institution trailed throughout the first four rounds of the contest but came out victorious by answering three out of the four riddles in the last round correctly.
Before the final lapse, Ada SHS was leading with 38 points with Sunyani SHS and KNUST SHS following with 36 and 30 points respectively.

The conetst was to be decided in the final round where the competing schools were to unravel riddles in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
KNUST never gave up hoping to unseat the two leading schools as they attempted and correctly answered the first riddle for three points to close the gap.
Sunyani SHS momentarily took the lead as they picked the second riddle after the other two failed to ring for the riddle.
KNUST SHS left nothing to chance as they solved the third riddle also for three points as well as the fourth just on the second clue for four points to beat Sunyani SHS with just a point.
At the end of the contest, KNUST SHS won with 40 points, with Sunyani SHS and SHS losing with 39 and 38 points respectively.
KNUST SHS become the first school to be seeded for next year’s competition and they will be competing in the quarterfinals againt the winners of the second and third in series of the one-eighth contests .
Mfantsipim School, two time champions will come up against Nandom SHS and Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS in the second contest while Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS and Presby SHS, Nkwatia will be in action with Presbyterain Boys’, Legon in the final contest for the day.
The National Science & Maths Quiz and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), with support from GCB Bank, GTP, Lancaster University Ghana, Academic City College, Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital, Accra College of Medicine, Hawtie Makeup, West African Centre for Cell Biology for Infectious Pathogens and Awake Purified Drinking water.

Below are the 36 contests for the preliminaries of the NSMQ2018. Contests 1-18 would take place at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium while 19-36 would be at the New N Block all at the University of Ghana, Legon.
