You may choose to call St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS the Giant Slayers and you will not be far from correct, after they defeated Kumasi SHTS to make a first-ever Quarterfinal appearance at the National Science & Maths Quiz.

EXCITED CONTESTANTS IN A POST WITH QUIZ MISTRESS, DR. ELSIE EFFAH KAUFMANN

The unassuming contestants left everything to the last round to unseat NSMQ2018 seeded school, Kumasi SHTS in a characteristic fashion.

The Upper West Region based school trailed in the first two rounds, but got back onto their feet in Round Three also known as the ‘Problem of the Day’, scoring a perfect score of 10 to bridge the gap between them and their closest contenders Kumasi SHTS.

They receive the NSMQ Star sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana. The three contestants and a coach will receive an amount of GHS600.00 each.

  1. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA’S SOLUTION TO THE ‘PROBLEM OF THE DAY’

Kumasi SHTS and Berekum SHS were able to get 2 points each from the complex Chemistry question.

St. Ignatius of Loyola did not relent, but instead, held on and fought to the end. Before the start of the final round, the margin between St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS and Kumasi SHTS had been reduced to five. At this point, it was anyone’s game to win.

In the fifth round, St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS proved mastery over the riddles to correctly provide answers to three riddles to win the contest.

  1. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA CONTESTANTS

They have become the fourth school to be seeded for NSMQ2020, and in the run for the JEB Award for the Most Impressive Run. The prize scheme was instituted by the Banful Family to award a less-endowed school that causes the biggest upset or goes the farthest in the Competition.

The 2019 National Science & Maths and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service with support from GOIL, GCB Bank, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Academic City College, Adansi Travels, Kenya Airways, Medifem Multi-specialist Hospital & Fertility Centre, Accra College of Medicine, Vimto, Aachen University, Entervarsity, Adesua.store, GTP, Hawtie Makeup, Chikas Beads and Pink Pearl.
