Ashanti Region tops with highest schools in NSMQ2019 Quarter Finals

Ashanti Region has topped with the highest number of schools to have qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2019 National Science & Maths Quiz.

Out of the 27 schools that have made it to the next round of the competition, the Ashanti region has six (6) institutions, holding the fort of lifting the trophy for their school and their respective region.

Last year, both the Central and Ashanti regions had six schools each seeded for this year’s edition but unfortunately, both the former has lost a slot.

Greater Accra and Volta Regions retained their slots from last year’s fiesta whilst Western, Upper East, Northern Regions improved on their performance from NSMQ2018 to gain additional spots at the Quarterfinals.

On the otherhand the likes of Eastern, Upper East regions failed to maintain the run losing some seeded slots.

Brong Ahafo region continues to have no school in the Quarterfinals.

A total of seventeen (17) seeded schools from NSMQ2018 lost their position to their competitors coming from the preliminary stage of competition.

Among the new entrants are St. John’s Grammar School, Achimota School, Chemu SHS, Boa Amposem SHS and St. Augustine’s College.

The likes of Tepa SHS, Kumasi Academy, T.I. AMASS, Kumasi, Obuasi SHTS, Pope John SHS, Oti Boateng SHS and Kpando SHS.

Western region also contributed three schools which include St. John’s School, G.S.T.S and Takoradi SHS.

Ghana SHS, Tamale also crossed the One-Eighth stage to made the first appearance at the Quarter finals.

The 2019 National Science & Maths and Science Festival is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service with support from GOIL, GCB Bank, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Academic City College, Adansi Travels, Kenya Airways, Medifem Multi-specialist Hospital & Fertility Centre, Accra College of Medicine, Vimto, Aachen University, Newmont Goldcorp Ghana, Entervarsity, Adesua.store, GTP, Hawtie Makeup, Chikas Beads and Pink Pearl.

  4. Kumasi Academy

Central Region (5)

  1. University Practice SHS
  2. Adisadel College
  3. Wesley Girls’ High School
  4. Boa Amposem SHS
  5. Augustine’s College

Greater Accra Region (5)

  1. Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon
  2. John’s Grammar School
  3. Accra Academy
  4. Achimota School
  5. Chemu SHS

Eastern Region (3)

  1. Pope John SHS
  2. Peter’s SHS
  3. Oti Boateng SHS

Western Region (3)

  1. John’s School
  2. S.T.S
  3. Takoradi SHS

Volta Region (2)

  1. Kpando SHS
  2. Keta SHTS

Northern Region (2)

  1. Ghana SHS, Tamale
  2. Tamale SHS

Upper West Region (1)

The National Science & Maths Quiz seeks to promote the study of Science and Mathematics in Ghana.This programme has been popular at unearthing local young scholarly talent since 1993, and was adjudged the CIMG TV Programme of the Year 2017.
