2007 Champions, St Augustine’s College secured a spot at the semifinals of the 2019 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz, crushing Tamale Senoir High School and Boa Ampomsem Senior High in a tough contest on July 6, 2019 at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium.
At the One-eighth stage, Tamale SHS defeated Ada SHS and KAdjebi-Asato SHS in the last round of riddles, to make it to the Quarterfinals. When they came up against St. Augustine’s College and Boa-Amponsem SHS, they put up a good fight, but despite their efforts, they could not emerge winners.
The first round ended in a tie between Augusco and Tamale SHS, each with 19 points, while Boa Amponsem SHS lagged behind with 15 points.
Tamale SHS broke the tie in the Speed Race round with 24 points, scaring Augusco who had scored 22 points. Boa Amponsem SHS ended the round with 15 points.
The scores from the fourth round resulted in another tie between Tamale SHS and Augusco with 45 points apiece, while Boa Amposem SHS followed with 31 points. However, the zeal of the one-time champions, Augusco , multiplied and solved the last three riddles to win the contest.
The scores at the end of the contest were: St. Augustine’s College 57 points, Tamale SHS 45 points and Boa Amposem SHS 31 points.
This win by St. Augustine’s College booked them a place at the semifinals, the closest they have ever come since 2007.
