This year’s Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers saw eight exciting contests spread out over two days. St Thomas Aquinas SHS, a one-time winner of the NSMQ, returned to the Regional Qualifiers after losing out painfully to Achimota School in their NSMQ 2019 One-Eighth stage contest.

Here’s a contest by contest highlight of this year’s Regional Qualifier competitions in Accra –

Contest One – Determined to prove a point, St. Thomas Aquinas SHS put up a fierce battle in the first contest of the Regional Qualifiers, sealing their victory with an impressive Speed Race performance that saw them sweep about 95% of the round’s questions.

Contest Two – Ghanata SHS followed the tempo set in the first contest, by completely stealing the show in the second. They won the contest with a 19-point margin, ending with an impressive score of 48 points.

Contest Three – Ever since their stellar performance at the NSMQ 2018 Grand Finale, West Africa SHS have become one of the favourite of the NSMQ, and it came as no surprise when they effortlessly won the third contest.

Contest Four – Right from the onset, the team from Tema Methodist SHS exuded a level of confidence that was unequalled. They correctly answered all their Speed Race attempts and performed brilliantly throughout the contest.

An excited supporter of St. Margaret Mary SHS jubilating.

Contest Five – Day Two started off on a very competitive note, with a neck-and-neck showdown between Holy Trinity Cathedral SHS and Ada SHS in the first contest. It was only in the final round that Holy Trinity Cathedral SHS further widened their gap and sealed their victory.

Contest Six – In the first round, OLAM SHS had a shaky start leaving us with absolutely no clue that they had something up their sleeves. They ended the contest in victory, besting Labone SHS by just four points.

Contest Seven – The penultimate contest of the Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers was nerve-racking, which saw all competing schools and fans sitting at the edges of their seats. Calm and composed St Magaret Mary SHS won this contest with a 14 point margin.

Contest Eight – The first round of this contest, all the four schools put up their very best and at the end of the round, all the schools were neck-and-neck, however, suffering a heavy defeat at the 2019 edition of the Regional Qualifiers, St Mary’s SHS clearly came with a solid strategy this year. They also won with a 14 point margin, ending their campaign with 35 points.
