Over the years, senior high schools in Ghana have used the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) platform to bring honour to their schools, and the acknowledgement that indeed, they are the crème de la crème schools in the country. The story will not be any different in 2020.
For former NSMQ champions like Mfantsipim School and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, it is more than just the bragging rights, but a long journey in redeeming their former glory.
The two former champions had to start their journey from the Regional Qualifiers, as they lost their seeds at the 2019 edition of the National Championship; a rare situation for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, and the first of its kind for Mfantsipim School.
St. Thomas Aquinas SHS lost their seed to Achimota School at the One-eighth Stage of the 2019 edition of the NSMQ to Achimota School, whereas Mfantsipim School suffered a heavy defeat from their city rivals, St. Augustine’s College at the One-eighth Stage of NSMQ 2019.
St. Thomas Aquinas SHS will continue their journey to redemption at the Preliminary Stage against Ghanata SHS and St. Mary’s SHS on September 8, 2020, while Mfantsipim School, will battle it out with Apam SHS and Eguafo Abrem SHS on September 11, 2020.
These former champions have given us wonderful shows in previous years, but how far will they make it this time?
