The 2020 Bono-Ahafo Regional Preliminary Stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz came off with Berekum SHTS, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Girls’ SHS, Notre Dame Girls’ SHS, Techiman SHS and Sunyani SHS qualifying for the One-eighth Stage of the National Championship.

Here’s a summary of this year’s Greater Accra Regional Preliminary Stage
Contest One – Bono-Ahafo Zone Preliminary had an exciting competition on Day One-contest one between PRESEC Bechem, Berekum SHS and Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS. For the first time since the inception of the Prudential Life NSMQ Star award, Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS; the lowest-scoring school at the end of the contest had a perfect score of 10 for solving the Problem of the Day, winning GHS 2000, sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance. PRESEC Bechem and Berekum SHS kept swapping positions at almost every round of the contest which eventually led to Berekum SHTS securing their spot in the One-eighth stage of the National Championship.

Contest Two – This year, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Girls’ SHS came back with a lot of fire, stealing the show in every round of contest two at the Bono-Ahafo Regional Preliminary Stage to cement their place at the One-eighth stage of the National Championship. There wasn’t much competition in contest two as Our Lady of Mount Carmel dominated every round. They gave an awesome performance making their win look flawlessly easy with 52 points at the end of the contest. On Day One, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Girls’ SHS won the Airtel-Tigo highest scorer of the day award worth GHS1000.
Contest Three – The third contest on Bono-Ahafo Regional Prelims Day One featured Notre Dame Girls’ SHS, Sacred Heart SHS and Odomaseman SHS. At the end of contest three, Notre Dame Girls’ SHS qualified to the one-eighth stage of the National Championship with 46 points. Sacred Heart SHS as the top runner-up with 28 points gets a second chance in competing against Sunyani SHS on Day Two-contest two.
Contest Four – It was a closely-run competition between Techiman SHS and Kintampo SHS in which Techiman SHS had a remarkable win, qualifying for the One-eighth stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz. In round three, Techiman SHS had a perfect score of 10 from solving the Problem of the Day winning the Prudential Life NSMQ Star worth GHC 2000 sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance. Kintampo SHS came close with eight out of 10 points. Techiman SHS qualified to the one-eighth stage with 37 points.
Contest Five – Top runners-up from the Bono-Ahafo Zone; Sacred Heart SHS and Drobo SHS had a second go at qualifying for the NSMQ One-eighth stage in a contest against Sunyani SHS. At the end of the contest, Sunyani qualified to the One-eighth stage with 38 points kicking out Drobo SHS and Sacred Heart from grabbing the NSMQ trophy. Sunyani SHS answered three out of four riddles correctly winning the GOIL Riddle Bonanza worth GHC800; GHC200 to the three contestants and their teacher. They beat Techiman SHS by one point in winning the Airtel-Tigo highest Scorer of the Day worth GHC1000.
