Started in 2019, the Regional Championships of the NSMQ provide a platform for schools to compete with their local/regional rivals and get a glimpse of the surreal atmosphere of the National Championship. In 2021, schools in the Greater Accra region will hope to follow in the footsteps of Achimota School (2019 Greater Accra Regional Champion) and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary – Legon (2020 Regional Champion) as the next Regional Champion of such a competitive region.
There will be a total of 12 schools facing off in 5 contests to crown the winner.
Winning the Regional Championship and the National Championship is a feat likened to a football team winning both the League cup and the FA cup in a single season. Interestingly since its introduction in 2019, two Regional Champions have gone on to win the ultimate prize on the National stage. St. Augustine’s College first achieved this in 2019, when the school won both the Central Regional Championship and the NSMQ 2019 National Championship. PRESEC – Legon followed suit the next year, clinching both the 2020 Greater Accra Regional Championship and the NSMQ 2020 National Championship.
With the introduction of 8 Regional/Zonal Championships to cover all 16 regions, will one of the 8 Regional/Zonal Champions continue this trend in 2021?
The NSMQ 2021 Regional & Zonal Championships are proudly sponsored by Absa Bank. Updates on all contests will be on the official NSMQ Ghana Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms.
