On Thursday 6th May, 2021, four schools in the Greater Accra region battled in a contest of wits, speed and accuracy to select the foremost school in the region in terms of science and maths. At the end of four rounds of competition, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary (PRESEC) – Legon, emerged victoriously.

Achimota School: One-time Regional Champion (2019)
Chemu SHS: Three-time Regional Championship Finalists

This is the second Regional Championship title won by PRESEC (first won in 2020), who beat one-time Winners Achimota School (Regional Champions 2019) and three-time finalists Chemu SHS (2019, 2020 and 2021). Odorgonno SHS made their Regional Championship Final debut and put up a spirited performance that saw them finish fourth; an impressive feat.

PRESEC – Legon is the first school across the country to win the Regional Championship title in two consecutive years, a record they also hold for the National Championship after winning the NSMQ title back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. Heading into the National Championship, PRESEC – Legon hopes to repeat their historical back-to-back win from the 2008-2009 era by winning the NSMQ 2021 National Championship.

Daniel Gakpetor (centre), a member of the victorious NSMQ 2020 team for PRESEC – Legon was present to cheer his alma mater to victory

Speaking after their victory in Accra, Mr. Afram, Coordinator of the PRESEC – Legon NSMQ team said

“First of all we’d like to thank God for making this happen. We know He’s a faithful God and He has promised us that the years ahead will also be fruitful. I also want to take the opportunity to thank my Headmaster, the management team and all the staff and students of PRESEC, the teachers and students on the NSMQ team, the old students who support the team in both cash and kind.”
