After months of earnest preparation, the 2021 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz is upon us. The 26th edition of the National Championship will feature 146 schools from across the 16 regions of Ghana. In the same fashion as last year’s, the Preliminary Stage will take place in eight venues across the country, from the 26th of October to the 5th of November, 2021.
With schools facing off in their respective regions/zones, the 54 schools (39 contest winners and 15 top runner-ups) to progress to the One-eighth Stage will rely on sheer grit, determination and in some special cases, luck. As part of the official Launch of the 2021 National Championship on Tuesday, 19th October, 2021, the balloting for contests at the Preliminary Stage will take place.
In each Region/Zone, the competing schools have been grouped into three (3) pots, based on their scores from the Regional Qualifiers. The highest scoring and best performing schools have been placed in Pot A, with the next ranking teams filling the Pots B and C respectively. This ensures that the best schools in each Region/Zone do not end up eliminating each other at the Preliminary Stage, leading to more competitive fixtures as the competition progresses.
Regardless of the Balloting Pots schools find themselves in, circumstances have changed since the Regional Qualifiers earlier this year. Schools have had months to firm up preparations, tie up loose ends and improve on their performances.
Here are the 119 schools competing at the Preliminary Stage this year, in their respective Regions/Zones.
