Legon-based Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School has qualified for the Grand Finale of this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The school booked their ticket to the finals after beating St. Peter’s SHS and Chemu SHS in their Semi-final Stage contest on Tuesday afternoon, November 23, 2021. The lads from PRESEC won the contest with 50 points, as against the 34 points of St. Peter’s and 21 points of Chemu SHS.

So far, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School is the only school that has won many laurels in the NSMQ Championship — they have won the ChampionshIp title six times.

The journey so far

Before beating Sonrise SHS and Bolgatanga SHS to book first-place in the Semi-final Sage of the contest, St. Peter’s SHS first beat Notre Dame Girls’ SHS and Notre Dame Seminary SHS. St. Peter’s SHS first won the National Science & Maths Quiz in the year, 2000. It won it the second time in 2005 and the third time in 2018.

Chemu secured their win over the two schools — St. Augustine’s College and Kanton SHS into the semis by answering the last question in the riddles section in Round Five, thereby gaining three points ahead of St. Augustine’s College’s 44 points. Chemu also beat Kumasi Secondary Technical School and St. James Seminary SHS to join the Quarter-final Stage. Chemu sailed through the One-eighth Stage from the Greater Accra Prelims, after beating Holy Trinity Cathedral SHS and Tema Methodist SHS. The school won with 60 points at the end of the last round.

Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School demonstrated their supremacy by prevailing over their opponents, Ghana SHS, Tamale and St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS in the One-eighth Stage of the competition. They won the contest with 71 points, the highest score ever recorded in this year’s competition. Their closest contender, St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS had 27 points, with Ghana SHS gathering 26 points.
