NSMQ 2023: Kumasi Academy Narrowly Beat SIMMS SHS To Qualify For The One-eighth Stage

Kumasi Academy, SIMMS SHS, and Sandema SHS were the outstanding contests for 'Day 2 of the NSMQ 2023 competitions at the Saarah-Mensah Auditorium. The spirited supporters from Kumasi Academy and SIMMS added to the excitement with their enthusiastic cheers, applause, and whistling.

However, when the day came to a close, it was not the school with the loudest cheers that emerged winners, but rather the one that accumulated the highest score. In this regard, Kumasi Academy demonstrated their superiority by clinching victory with an impressive 50-points.

At the last contest started at 3pm. At precisely 3:15pm, Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei, the Quiz Mistress, officially commenced the competition among the three schools.


During the Problem of the Day, Kumasi High School broke one of the rules by looking at the questions before time. As a result, the Quiz mistress, Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei penalized them by deducting 5 marks from their accrued points.


In Round Four, SIMMS SHS and Kumasi SHS were tied at a stalemate and Round 5 was the ice breaker. Despite losing 5 points in Round Three, Kumasi High managed to accrue 50 points at the end of the competition by beating SIMMS SHS with a small margin of 03 points.

notably, the 2023 edition of the NSMQ in its historic occurrence represents the first time the National Championship spans across two regions. KNUST will serve as the venue for the first four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled to captivate audiences at the National Theatre.
