The 2024 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz entered its second day at the Preliminary Stage, with Amaniampong SHS securing their spot at the One-eighth Stage with 55 points, after beating New Juaben SHS, who managed 39 points, and eliminating St Mary’s SHS, who finished with 22 points.
At the SGS Auditorium, Amaniampong SHS had their fans fully charged, cheering loudly for their contestants. At one point, the Quiz Mistress, Dr Mrs Gladys Odey Schwinger had to step in and ask the excited fans to calm down.
Amaniampong SHS appeared to be primarily competing with New Juaben SHS, as both schools lodged protests against each other in the Round One to Round Three. During the Round Four, New Juaben SHS went head-to-head with Amaniampong SHS. However, by the end of the round, Amaniampong SHS emerged on top, having answered all their questions correctly.
The Riddle Round, which marked the final round of the contest, saw Amaniampong SHS once again securing the bragging rights over New Juaben SHS and St Mary’s SHS.
Unfortunately, St Mary’s SHS, who had acknowledged at the start of the contest that their journey had been challenging, had to bow out of the Preliminary Stage in 2024, after also failing to make an appearance in 2023.
The crowning moment for Amaniampong SHS came in the fifth round, where their impressive performance in solving three riddles earned them a GHC 800 prize from GOIL, courtesy of the GOIL Riddle Bonanza.
