Ghana National College has booked their seat in the One-eighth Stage of the National Championship after an impressive performance against Nkwatia Presby SHS and Nafana Presby SHS in the final contest of the Preliminary Stage. At the end of the contest, Ghana National College scored 66 points.
The quiz, moderated by the ever-energetic Dr. Anita Oppong, kicked off with each school declaring their expectations for the day.
The competition began on a level playing field as Ghana National and Nkwatia Presby SHS went head-to-head, each grabbing up 21 points by the end of the Round One, leaving Nafana Presby SHS trailing with just nine points. It was a promising start for the top two, with Nafana Presby SHS hoping to catch up.
The ‘Prudential Life Speed Race’ round, saw Ghana National College surged ahead, accumulating 43 points. Nkwatia Presby SHS managed to collect 24 points, but Nafana Presby SHS struggled, losing points and slipping further behind, ending the round with only eight points.
In Round Three, ‘Problem of the Day’, Ghana National College faltered slightly, scoring seven points due to challenges with arithmetic. Nkwatia Presby SHS managed only three points, while Nafana Presby SHS was unable to score at all, leaving them in a risky position heading into the final round.
Ghana National College continued their dominance in the ‘True or False Round’, securing an additional 13 points, bringing their total to 63points. Nkwatia Presby SHS and Nafana Presby SHS, still struggling to keep pace, ended the round with 37 and 15 points, respectively.
While the contest seemed all but over, Nkwatia Presby SHS made a last-minute surge by answering three riddles correctly, securing the "GOIL Riddle Bonanza" prize of GH₵800. However, it wasn’t enough to dethrone Ghana National College, who clinched victory with 66 points, booking their seat in the One-eighth Stage.
