Eastern Regional Champions, Koforidua Senior High Technical School delivered a commanding performance, overcoming competition from fellow Eastern Regional contenders Adonten SHS and Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, to secure a spot in the Semi-final Stage of the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz in the SGS Auditorium with 46 points.
Before the contest began, Quiz Mistress Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann engaged the contestants in hearty conversations to help them feel at ease. This was a high-stakes contest, with a spot in the Semi-final Stage of this year’s NSMQ National Championship on the line; those calm nerves were exactly what the contestants needed.
The smiles on their faces showed they enjoyed their time with the esteemed Quiz Mistress. The contestants had the chance to share stories about their respective schools, while also talking about their interests.
In a challenging first round, marked by more misses than hits, the Quiz Mistress exclaimed, 'Oh, my people!' as each school missed their first question. Adonten SHS remained the calmest, finishing the round with 14 points.
Koforidua Senior High Technical School followed closely with 12 points, while Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, ended with 10 points.
Koforidua Senior High Technical School excelled in the Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race section of Round Two, answering five questions correctly. They finished the round with 24 points, while Adonten SHS fell behind with 15 points, and Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, closed the round with 11 points.
The 'Mmarima Mma' extended their lead to 30 points during the 'Problem of the Day' round, after scoring six points. Adonten SHS struggled, failing to earn any points in this round, which allowed Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, to catch up slightly by scoring four points, bringing their total to 15.
Koforidua Senior High Technical School further showcased their dominance in the contest, making a strong case for a Semi-final spot by answering six questions in the Jupay Money Transfer True/ False of the fourth round. They ended the round with 40 points. Despite solid performances from their competitors, the Eastern Regional Champions remained unchallenged.
In the final round of the contest, the GOIL Super Bonanza, Koforidua Senior High Technical School secured their victory by answering two riddles correctly, guaranteeing their place in the Semi-final Stage of this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz. Alongside their 46-point triumph, their success in solving the riddles earned them the GH₵1,000 GOIL Super Bonanza Award.
