NSMQ 2024 Launch: Setting the Stage for Another Season of Excellence

The stage is set for the official launch of the 2024 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), which will take place today, October 1, 2024, at 3 pm at the GNAT Hall, Accra. This year’s edition marks an important milestone as the NSMQ embarks on its 31st year.

The launch event will bring together key stakeholders in Ghana’s educational landscape, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, the renowned Quiz Mistresses, NSMQ consultants, and all the sponsors of this year’s competition. These esteemed guests will witness the unveiling of the highly anticipated season, which promises exciting new features and a competitive display of intellectual prowess among Ghana's brightest minds.

For over three decades, the NSMQ has played a pivotal role in promoting STEM education in Ghana, nurturing a passion for science and mathematics among students, and inspiring generations of future leaders. The 2024 edition is expected to build on this legacy, continuing to foster healthy academic rivalry and a culture of excellence in Ghana's senior high schools.

As part of the launch, Primetime Limited will provide a detailed overview of the upcoming competition, and share highlights of the changes that will make this year’s NSMQ a memorable experience. Guests will also be treated to previews of the exciting contests and initiatives lined up for the season, including the much-talked-about move to Cape Coast, which will serve as the host city for the entire National Championship.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Managing Director of Primetime Limited, Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu, expressed her excitement during an interview on Joy Prime’s Morning Show. She revealed that, for the first time in the history of the NSMQ, 157 schools, including eight private institutions, will be participating in the National Championship. Ms Mensa-Bonsu emphasised that this marks a significant milestone for the competition. She further explained that the balloting exercise will enable schools to identify their competitors ahead of the Championship, setting the stage for a thrilling contest.

“The balloting exercise for the Prelims will help each school know who they are up against. Another new development this year is that, for the first time in NSMQ history, we have 157 schools, including eight private schools, participating in the National Championship. It has never happened before. I must say it takes a little time for new schools to acclimatise, as the NSMQ has its own rhythm and its own demands on the students. However, we hope the private schools will give the government schools a run for their money,” Ms Mensa-Bonsu stated.

As anticipation builds for the event, Ghanaian students, educators, and alumni from across the country are eager to see what NSMQ 2024 has in store. With 157 schools set to compete, the journey towards crowning of the next NSMQ champion at the National Championship is about to begin.
