Biakoye Community SHS recently made their debut at the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship, a first in the school's history. Although they ultimately lost to Adiembra SHS, their journey to the contest was a unique and inspiring one.

With fewer than 200 students and no Science teachers or dedicated Science students, Biakoye Community SHS faces substantial challenges. “Our school, established only six years ago, simply doesn’t have the luxury of a specialised Science department,” explained their coordinator, Mr David. “We rely on students from other departments.”
The school’s decision to enter the NSMQ, despite these hurdles, reflects the passion of its head, who, as Mr David noted, “has a deep commitment to Science and Maths and continually encourages our students to aim high.”
This passion is shared by Godwin Dunyo, a Visual Arts student, who played a key role in securing the school’s place at the Preliminary Stage. Godwin’s own story is moving - he lost his parents at a young age and was raised by different family members, selling charcoal to fund his education. “I hope to join the military and serve my country one day,” shared Godwin, who also has a talent for art alongside his love for Science and Maths.
Godwin’s teammates are Home Economics students, and together, they propelled Biakoye from the Regionals to the Prelims - a remarkable feat for a school without a Science focus. As Mr David proudly noted, “It’s a great accomplishment for our school.”
In his closing remarks, Mr David called on the public and stakeholders to help Biakoye Community SHS turn their dreams into reality, hoping for resources that would empower their budding champions. “With the guidance of Science teachers, eager Science students, and a simple school bus to take us there, we could compete on equal footing next year,” he shared. For Biakoye, these essentials would mean not just an entry but a real chance to shine—a future that, with a bit of support, could truly belong to them.
