The 2024 edition of the National Championship of the NSMQ, kicked off with the first contest of the Preliminary Stage at Auditorium 900. Moderated by Dr Thelma Ohene-Adjei, the contest featured Zion College, West Africa SHS, and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS. After an intense battle of academic brilliance, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS emerged victorious with 44 points, securing their place in the One-eighth Stage of the competition.

The contest began with each school expressing its determination to make a strong impact. For Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, especially, this was a significant return to the competition after a long absence. The contestants were confident, declaring their readiness to go as far as possible in this year’s contest.

Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, delighted their supporters in the auditorium by delivering a stellar performance. The "Obra Nye Woarbo" girls from Saltpond set the pace early on, leading the first round with 21 points. West Africa SHS followed closely with 17 points, while Zion College trailed with 11 points.

As the contest progressed, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS continued to dominate, ending the second round with 27 points, while West Africa SHS and Zion College followed with 23 and 22 points, respectively.

The "Problem of the Day" round proved challenging for all the schools, as none managed to secure maximum points. Zion College topped this round with 5 points, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS earned 4 points, and West Africa SHS scored 2 points.

In Round Four, Zion College and West Africa SHS mounted a strong challenge, but Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS maintained their lead, finishing the round with 44 points. Zion College ended with 37 points, and West Africa SHS with 32 points.

Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS faced challenges in the final round, but their strong performance in the earlier stages ensured that neither West Africa SHS nor Zion College could surpass them. At the end of the contest, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS secured victory with 44 points. West Africa SHS followed closely with 42 points, while Zion College finished with 40 points.

After a seven-year absence, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS have made a triumphant return and have advanced to the One-eighth Stage of the 2024 NSMQ. Meanwhile, West Africa SHS and Zion College have been eliminated at the Preliminary Stage, suffering the same fate as last year.
