NSMQ 2024: Reigning Champs PRESEC Book Quarter-final Slot with 60 Points!

The reigning champions of the 2023 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz , Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC), demonstrated their prowess once again at the One-eighth Stage of the 2024 competition.

PRESEC battled Kofi Agyei Senior High Technical School and Ghana Senior High School, Tamale in an intense contest that saw them emerge victorious with a strong 60 points, earning their place in the Quarter-finals.

The contest began with the Quiz Mistress, Dr. Anita Oppong, asking each school about their expectations. Kofi Agyei SHTS expressed hope for the best, while Ghana SHS, the regional champions, shared a similar sentiment. PRESEC was also determined to maintain their championship status.

The first round was competitive, with all three schools eager to make their mark. However, PRESEC quickly gained momentum, answering seven questions correctly and securing three bonus points, finishing the round with 24 points. Ghana SHS and Kofi Agyei SHTS followed closely with 10 and eight points, respectively.

In the ‘Prudential Life Speed Race’, PRESEC continued to widen the gap, adding 10 more points to their score. Ghana SHS managed to gain three additional points, while Kofi Agyei lost a point after an incorrect answer.

Kofi Agyei SHTS still trusting the process

The ‘Problem of the Day’ proved difficult for the contestants. Kofi Agyei SHTS struggled to fully solve the problem but earned one point for their effort. Ghana SHS also received one point, while PRESEC’s partial solution secured them six points, allowing them to maintain their lead.

In the ‘Jupay Money Transfer True/ False Round,’ PRESEC solidified their dominance, answering most of the questions correctly and gaining 13 additional points. Ghana SHS added one point to their score, while Kofi Agyei improved their tally with 10 points.

The reigning champions in the mood of prayer

The contest ended with the ‘GOIL Riddle Bonanza Round’, where both Kofi Agyei SHTS and PRESEC answered two riddles correctly. However, PRESEC’s lead was unquestionable, and they finished the contest with 60 points, securing their place in the Quarter-finals.

Despite being first-timers, Kofi Agyei SHTS put up a commendable fight but ended their journey with 24 points. Ghana SHS, Tamale, the regional champions, also bowed out of the 2024 competition, finishing with 15 points.
