NSMQ 2024: St. Peter’s SHS Silences Sirigu Integrated SHS' 'Big Boys' Aspirations with an Impressive Victory

Auditorium 900—October 15, 2024

The final contest for the day at Auditorium 900 featured St. Peter’s SHS, Hohoe E.P. SHS, and Sirigu Integrated SHS in a thrilling academic showdown. Expectations were particularly high after Sirigu Integrated SHS boldly declared they were ready to take on the "so-called big schools". However, St. Peter’s SHS dominated the competition, securing their place in the One-eighth Stage with an impressive 65 points, while Sirigu’s confident claims fell flat.

The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as Dr Thelma Ohene-Adjei, the Quiz Mistress for the day, took charge, introducing the contestants and setting the stage for an intense academic face-off.

The contest began with anticipation in the air as Dr. Thelma Ohene-Adjei, the Quiz Mistress for the day, introduced the contestants, setting the stage for an intense contest.

The contestants from each school appeared composed, showing no signs of nerves as the competition got underway. The crowd, on the other hand, was buzzing with excitement. Sirigu Integrated SHS, whose coordinator had boldly declared their readiness to challenge the ‘Big Boys’, placed their hopes in Allah. Their earnest cries of "Inshallah" ignited rapturous applause from the audience, which had to be calmed down.

The first round of the contest featured a fierce battle between Hohoe E.P. SHS and St. Peter’s SHS, with St. Peter’s pulling ahead by scoring 25 points, while Hohoe E.P. SHS trailed with 17 points. Sirigu Integrated SHS, however, managed to secure only three points by the end of Round One.

In Round Two, St. Peter’s SHS continued their dominance, answering the majority of the Prudential Life Speed Race questions and raising their score to an impressive 40 points. Hohoe E.P. SHS added just three points, bringing their total to 20, while Sirigu Integrated SHS remained stagnant on three points.

"The Problem of the Day" presented a serious challenge for Hohoe E.P. SHS, as St. Peter’s SHS appeared set to take a commanding lead. Excitement grew as the Quiz Mistress approached to check St. Peter’s solution, with chants of "10/10!" echoing through the auditorium.

However, St. Peter’s SHS ended up with only three points. Hohoe E.P. SHS secured five points, while Sirigu Integrated SHS failed to score any point. Their struggle for survival had already begun, even before facing the so-called "Big Boys." Before the Jupay True/False Round, Sirigu Integrated SHS made a substitution, much to the crowd's delight, who had been cheering for them ever since they popularised "Inshallah" in the auditorium.

Hohoe E.P. SHS left dejected

GOIL’s Riddle Bonanza in Round Five offered contestants the chance to earn additional points, but none of the schools managed to solve three out of the four riddles. St. Peter’s SHS answered two correctly, but after both they and Hohoe E.P. SHS missed the final riddle, Sirigu Integrated SHS had an opportunity to steal the spotlight. Unfortunately, they missed as well, though the crowd erupted into loud cheers, ending the contest on an electrifying note.

St. Peter’s SHS, with an impressive score of 65 points, outshone Adonten SHS to secure the Pepsodent Highest Scorer Award for the four contests held in Auditorium 900.
