Prempeh College has solidified its place in the Quarter-final Stage of the 2024 NSMQ after a decisive victory over Awudome Senior High School and Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School. This highly anticipated contest on the second day of the One-eighth Stage saw Prempeh College, a seeded school, live up to expectations, while both Awudome SHS and Kadjebi-Asato SHS, top runners-up in their respective regional contests, put up a valiant fight.
The competition kicked off with the Quiz mistress, Dr. Anita Oppong, engaging the schools in a brief reflection on their journey so far. Prempeh College acknowledged a challenging path to the contest, stating they had returned to the drawing board to correct past mistakes. Both Awudome SHS and Kadjebi-Asato SHS expressed confidence, stating they expected nothing but their best performance on the day.
Prempeh College took an early lead in Round One, answering almost all the questions correctly and even added bonuses from the other two schools. This gave them a commanding 27 points, ahead of Awudome SHS with 19 points, while Kadjebi-Asato SHS left behind with just seven points.
The ‘Prudential Life Speed Race Round’ lived up to its name, with Prempeh College speeding in the round. They added 19 points, increasing their scores to 46 points, significantly widening the gap. Awudome SHS managed to add only two points, reaching a total of 21 points, and Kadjebi-Asato SHS struggled, finishing with just four points.
The Problem of the Day, a chemistry question, saw Prempeh College secure eight points, while both Awudome SHS and Kadjebi-Asato SHS earned just two points each.
In the ‘JuPay True / False Round’, Prempeh College continued to extend their lead, reaching 61 points. Awudome SHS inched forward with 30 points, and Kadjebi-Asato SHS improved slightly with 19 points.
The ‘GOIL Riddle Bonanza Round’ brought a final burst of excitement, with Awudome SHS answering two riddles, Prempeh College answering one, and Kadjebi-Asato SHS managing to score one point.
At the end of the contest, Prempeh College emerged victorious with a solid 64 points, securing their place in the Quarter-finals. Their outstanding performance earned them the Pepsodent Highest Scorer of the Day award, along with a cash prize of GH₵2,000. Meanwhile, Awudome SHS finished with 33 points, while Kadjebi-Asato SHS ended with 20 points.
