Quarter-final Dreams on the Line: Who Will Dominate the Central Region Derby?

Today marks the beginning of the One-eighth Stage of the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), and excitement is building across the Central Region. The balloting exercise has revealed thrilling matchups, including a highly anticipated contest this Sunday, October 22, 2024, at the SGS Auditorium.

In this key matchup, three powerhouse schools from the host region—Mfantsipim School, Winneba SHS, and University Practice SHS—will clash for a coveted spot in the Quarter-finals. With rich histories and fierce rivalries, all eyes are on who will claim victory.

Mfantsipim School

Mfantsipim School, a name synonymous with excellence in academic competitions, made history in 1999 by clinching their first NSMQ title, followed by a second victory in 2014. Although the school has yet to add another trophy to its collection, it has consistently proven its mettle by reaching the One-eighth, Quarter, and Semi-finals in recent years. This time, they aim to break the decade-long drought and restore their status as champions.

Winneba SHS

Having ended their journey last year at the One-eighth Stage, where they were eliminated by Osei Tutu SHS, Winneba SHS is back with renewed determination. After securing victory in their Regional Qualifiers, the school is eager to prove its worth and advance further in this year’s competition.

University Practice SHS

Last year, University Practice SHS faced a similar fate as Winneba SHS, bowing out at the hands of Osei Tutu SHS in the One-eighth Stage. Now, with hopes high and strategies in place, they aim to harness the power of the Fante fortune on their homeland. The stakes are high as they seek to capitalize on the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skill.

As the Central Region Derby unfolds, one thing is certain: this contest will be one for the history books.
