Ready, Set, Quiz! NSMQ 2024 Kicks Off Today!

The 2024 edition of the National Championship of the NSMQ is scheduled to kick off today at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), which will be hosting the programme for the first time. Three auditoriums are set to host the contests, starting from the Preliminary Stage: CNC, SGS Auditorium, and Auditorium 900, will each host different contests daily.

Mfantsiman Girls' SHS

Wenchi Methodist SHS, having won their Regional Qualifiers contest this year after failing to qualify for the National Championship last year, will face Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS, who narrowly missed advancing from the Preliminary Stage by just a single point last year. Ejisuman SHS, on the other hand, ended their run in last year’s competition at the Preliminary Stage, where they were defeated by University Practice SHS. However, they won their Regional Qualifiers contest this year to make it to the Preliminary Stage.

In another contest, Adanwomase SHS, who beat Kumasi Wesley Girls' at the Ashanti Regional Qualifiers, will face Wallahs Academy from the Volta Region and O'Reilly SHS from Greater Accra. O'Reilly SHS, having missed last year's National Championship, secured their spot this year as a top runner-up from the Greater Accra qualifiers. Wallahs Academy, a private school, made their first appearance last year but were defeated by Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS. They return this year, aiming to progress further.

Sekondi College, who lost to St. Catherine SHS at the Preliminary Stage in last year’s National Championship, won their Regional Qualifiers contest this year. They will face Bright SHS, a private school making their first appearance at the National Championship, and Tepa SHS, who secured their spot this year by winning their Regional Qualifiers after missing out last year.

With mixed feelings among contestants and supporters, the competition is ready to begin. Who will rise to the challenge and secure their place in the One-eighth Stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz?
