SWESCO Boots Out Ashanti Regional Champions in Epic Showdown to Clinch Quarter-final Spot!

Swedru Secondary School pulled off a remarkable upset in the One-eighth Stage of the 2024 NSMQ, edging out Ashanti Regional Champions, Kumasi High School and Tepa SHS in the final round at Auditorium 900.


Their 37-point win secured a spot in the Quarter-final Stage and earned them a GH₵1, 200 Prize, Goil Riddle Bonanza for answering three riddles correctly to overturn the tie after trailing since the first round.



In their introductory remarks, Kumasi High School declared, "We pray, we practice, we win!"—highlighting their readiness for the One-eighth contest. Tepa SHS and Swedru Secondary School, on the other hand, expressed their intent to give their best effort.


The first round was tightly contested, with each school protesting decisions as every point was valuable. Tepa SHS led with 21 points, closely followed by Kumasi High School with 20 points, while Swedru Secondary School scored 17 points.


The Prudential Life Speed Race, round posed a challenge to all three competing schools. Kumasi High School somewhat found their stride, earning 22 points, though Tepa SHS remained close behind, dropping to 20 points after a tough round. Swedru Secondary School, determined to stay competitive, finished the round with 19 points.



The "Problem of the Day" round had each school underperforming. Kumasi High School added just three points to their score. Tepa SHS failed to score, while Swedru Secondary School gained one point, bringing them to the same level with Tepa SHS.


Kumasi High School extended their lead in the Jupay Money Transfer True or False round, finishing it with 35 points. Tepa SHS followed with 30 points, while Swedru Secondary School had 27 points.


Ashanti Regional Champions shocked!


After the Ashanti Regional Champions failed to answer any of the riddles in the Round Five correctly, Swedru Secondary School ceased their moment, staging a late comeback in the final round, answering three riddles correctly to win the Goil Riddle Bonanza. With 37 points, they secured their place in the Quarter-final Stage of this year's NSMQ, edging out Kumasi High School and Tepa SHS.
